Poiana Brasov: the low-cost ski resort

Poiana Brasov’s ski resort is the cheapest in Europe and the largest and most famous in Romania with its 14 km of ski slopes. It is ideal for experimented skiers and those who like to relax doing other activities.

Poiana Brasov’s ski resort

Poiana Brasov is located at an altitude of 1200, at the foot of the mountain Postavaru (1828 m) and surrounded by the mountains of Piatra Craiului (2238 m), Bucegi (2505 m) and Piatra Mare (1848 m). The resort is located 12 km from Brasov in Transylvania.

Most of the slopes are located on the Postavaru Mountain which offers a spectacular view of all the Transylvania’s mountains.

Poiana Brasov is suitable for all types of skiers. Long and interesting tracks are mostly blue and red runs but there are also three black runs that are very difficult when more snow falls.

Usually, snow is falling from December to end of March.

  • Lupului – black – 2860 m
  • Sulinar – red – 2441 m
  • Kanzel – red – 350 m
  • Ruia – black – 540 m
  • Sub teleferic – black – 100m
  • Drumul Rosu – blue – 2821 m
  • Bradul – blue – 458 m
  • Slalom Poiana – red – 575 m
  • Stadion – blue – 300 m

Poiana Brasov has many restaurants with traditional interiors where local specialties are served such as wild boar. Do not miss to taste the alcohol made with plums and called “Ţuică”. There is also a cinema, an ice rink and a outdoors swimming pool with hot water.

The surroundings are very interesting for small trips. Close to this area, we can find the ancient cities of Brasov (12 km) and Râşnov (10 km), as well as the largest tourist attraction in Romania such as Bran’s Castle.

Brasov

Brasov is a former German colony and a major urban attraction in Romania. It is a medieval city with a historic centre, baroque facades and stone walls. Due to its popularity, accommodation and restaurants are slightly more expensive than in other cities of Romania.

Râşnov

Râşnov is a fortress city built in 14th century. Tourists often choose to stay in Râşnov to visit the region because the hotels are cheaper than in Brasov.

Bran’s Castle

It is better known under the famous name of “castle of Dracula”. This is an essential attraction in Transylvania.
